_thinkMake Week-5:Active engagement in the space

It's always been fun to attend a class, Mr Oren. As we approach week 4 class we began as usual with a presentation from Mahya and Hain about the reading of “Chapter III Making Do- Uses and Tactics”. From the presentation, there was a lot to take. It helped me to think from a different perspective. Specifically, the Strategies and Tactics section. It was very specific and to the point. Strategies help us to do stuff within boundaries where we are surrounded by specific rules, to be exactly scripted. Tactics help us to do the same thing with no boundaries where we are independent to do things in our way.  We had a discussion about the reading after the presentation. It was very fruitful. We shared our thoughts and perspectives. It helped us to think out of the box.  Every single one of us chose 7 different words from the reading. Then we had a small conversation about the thesis topics that we wanted to work with. I shared my thoughts about it. The approximate topic I thou...

_thinkMake Week-05-:reading -04(Making Do: Uses And Tactics)

Making Do: Uses And Tactics   While reading, the following paragraph will serve as my explanation of what I understood: La permque is the practise of using business time and resources for personal or hobby projects. An example of this would be working at a timber mill and using surplus pieces to build a cabinet during work hours. This is a growingly popular practise that incorporates individual artistic tricks and competitions into a system of reproduction and planning through work or leisure. Workplace cultures that disguising economic reproduction through narratives of communication, surprise, or truth proliferate and enable work to be divided, totaled, and tabulated. These repurposed modes of use proliferate as a result of the expansion of the acculturation phenomenon, which replaces previous ways of migrating towards the identification of an individual based on their place of employment or residence. The manner in which these modes of usage are employed and contr...

We’ve started our week- 4 (13th October ) with a regular class. And finished it up with a lot to catch up on. Before we came for the class we had homework to read a story called “Feminist” and were asked to pick seven words from the story. Tactic, Focus, Marginalisation, Form, Manifest, poetics, and Ontology are the words that I’ve chosen.  At the beginning of our class, two of our classmates presented the story. To be honest it was fruitful. The way they thought about this story was outstanding. It helps me to open up my mind as well from different perspectives.  Here comes the fun season. We’re asked to inhale our surroundings for 2 minutes. And then start drawing with closed eyes. And this is what I drew in that 5 minutes I got. When I closed my eyes I could sense those tables all around me so I tried to draw them on the paper. There was a constant sound of sketching from other students I could hear them so I tried to draw the sound map that continues the line I was g...

_thinkMake Week-04:reading-03 (FEMINIST)

Essay: only resist — a feminist approach to critical spatial practice Rendell, Jane FEMINIST Your body is a battleground COLLECTIVITY SUBJECTIVITY ALTERITY PERFORMATIVITY MATERIALITY In the 1990s, American architect Jennifer Bloomer challenged the logical and rational structures of architecture by incorporating feminine elements in written texts. This feminist debate gained theoretical strength in the academy, pointing to concerns about disciplinary boundaries and procedures informed by political concern with subjectivity. Contemporary feminist practitioners in architecture are located at intersections between different spatial disciplines, focusing on the process of design and the 'feminine' and gender difference. Conditions of visibility have been a part of the feminist debate, with feminist publications in major architectural theory anthologies often featuring men's contributions.  Key findings while reading: Feminist perspectives in architecture have been less...

I can divide this class into two stages. In the first half, our classmates Sina and Wendy described the story “Space is Always Political “ as they were given a task by our teacher. To be honest it was fruitful. The discussion opens up with a lot of different perspectives. I was able to differentiate between my thoughts and theirs fruitfully. Which helps me to a better understanding of the story. The conclusion they made was outstanding. After they’ve done describing it was all of us who shared our thoughts on the story.       I find this class interesting because I’ve done something that I never done before. Thanks to our teacher for creating such engaging content to build up and keep things going with our learning. More importantly, opens our minds to different perspectives to learn and grow.  After the first half of our class, the reading describing, putting thoughts into perspective, and playing with words took place.  In the later half of the class, we ...

_thinkMake Week-03:reading -02 ( Space is always political)

Space is always political Melanie Dodd   The idea that "architecture is always political" by Richard Rogers was important during times of housing crises, social displacement, and gentrification. A group called Architecture for Social Housing (ASH) held a protest in 2015 that called for social inequality to be addressed in the built environment and criticized the politics of architecture. People usually think of architecture and spatial practice as being connected to money. But this chapter looks at how spatial activism, short-term interventions, and socially engaged approaches can change social and political outcomes. This chapter talks about how politics shape both space and politics.   The process of redesigning public parks in a city is one example of this. There may be different ideas among interest groups about how the space should be used and organized. This could lead to disagreements, and everyone will need to work together to find a solution. This polit...

_thinkMakeweek-02 reading-01

The Cares of a Family Man by Franz Kafka The true origin of the word Odradek remains a mystery, as both the Slavonic and German theories fail to offer a comprehensive understanding. Its elusive nature suggests that it may hold a deeper significance or symbolism that transcends linguistic boundaries.  My thoughts while reading: The spool, with its tangled threads, takes on a new purpose as a unique and whimsical piece of art. Its unconventional design, with the crossbar and rod, adds an element of intrigue and functionality.  Its form seems to defy logic, with its twisted and tangled limbs that appear to serve no purpose. It is as if Odradek exists solely to perplex and confound those who encounter it. Its elusive nature only adds to the mystery, as it evades capture and defies any attempts at examination.  You can't help but feel a sense of curiosity about Odradek, as if there is a hidden depth to him that you can't q...

Hearing something and relates it to our own thoughts and comes up with something- interesting isn’t it! Thats how we started our class of “ Making and Thinking “ with the professor Oren Lieberman. The professor began by explaining how this process of making connections and generating ideas is a fundamental aspect of human creativity. He emphasized that by actively engaging with our surroundings and constantly questioning, we can unlock new perspectives and insights. Throughout the class, we were encouraged to explore different mediums and experiment with various techniques to further enhance our creative thinking abilities.  We’ve got two different stories to read and give a thought on it and get 7 specific words from both stories. There was a QnA session about those 2 stories. For all of us to find individual thoughts, ideas and reflections. During the QnA session, Professor Lieberman encouraged us to delve deeper into the themes and messages of the stories. He emphasized the impo...
